Cybersecurity Conference led by a student of the Department of Information Technology

1st year student (based on the college) of the Department of Information Technology Demesin Bekzhan in the period from 09/11/2024 to 09/13/2024 successfully organized and held a conference on cybersecurity Kaz Hack Stan 2024 in Almaty. The event brought together leading experts, students and enthusiasts in the field of information security. One of the main events of the conference was the CTF quest (Capture The Flag), the purpose of which was to raise awareness of participants about modern threats and methods of protecting information systems. Under the guidance of Demesin Bekzhan, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world cyberattack scenarios and demonstrate their skills in areas such as web security, OSINT, PWN and reverse engineering.

The conference was a great success, which was confirmed by the positive feedback from participants and industry experts. Thanks to such initiatives, students like Demesin Bekzhan, who make a significant contribution to the development of cybersecurity, the popularization of this area, the professional growth of young cybersecurity specialists is underway.

After the successful organization of the KazHackStan 2024 conference on cybersecurity, Demesin Bekzhan held a presentation on Cybersecurity for students of the KazUTB Information Technology Department on 10/14/2024, which was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Technology Zhunusova G.S., Head of the IT Department Serimbetov B.A. and the teaching staff of the department. During the meeting, B. Demesin shared his experience in organizing such a large-scale event, and also discussed the key lessons learned during the preparation and conduct of the CTF quest.

During the discussion, students learned about the practical aspects of organizing esports events, the complexities of team interaction and the importance of cybersecurity in modern realities. Demesin also talked about how he planned the tasks for the quest, and shared useful tips on preparing for competitions in the field of information security.

Such meetings facilitate the exchange of experience and help students not only develop their skills, but also be inspired to new projects and research in the field of cybersecurity. After the meeting with the students, it was decided to create a student Cybersecurity circle at the Department of Information Technology, in which all interested students can participate to deepen their knowledge in the field of information security, develop practical skills and participate in solving practical and real cyber tasks.

The program of the circle will include such areas as:

  • Analysis and elimination of web vulnerabilities.
  • Research of OSINT methods (exploration based on open data).
  • Exploitation of binary software vulnerabilities (PWN).
  • Reverse engineering and malware analysis.

The club will be an excellent opportunity for students to work in a team, participate in esports events and prepare for professional activities in the field of cybersecurity. Everyone will be able to join and develop their skills under the guidance of experienced specialists.
