The Department of social and humanitarian disciplines

The main goal of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities is to form a humanistic worldview, social consciousness, patriotism, elements of critical thinking, and personal and professional culture among students.

The department's mission is to provide activities that contribute to the training of highly qualified specialists in technical and economic fields through the teaching of social sciences and humanities using modern teaching technologies. The formation of a holistic, critical-thinking, culturally developed, and socially responsible personality of a future specialist who is able to understand complex social processes and their place in them.

The department's faculty actively participates in scientific, pedagogical, educational, and social activities.

The department carries out its activities in accordance with the approved annual work plan in the following areas:

– educational and methodological support of the educational process;

– organizational and methodological work;

– research work of the faculty;

– research work of students;

– educational work.

The implementation of the department's goal is achieved through the solution of a number of strategic tasks

- high-quality lectures, practical (seminar) and other types of training sessions; organization and management of independent work of undergraduate and graduate students; control over the students' academic work, determination of its results;

- preparation of textbooks, teaching aids, lecture notes, methodological literature and educational and practical publications on the profile of the department;

- conducting research work; management of research work of students and discussion of ready research works;

- organization and conduct of various types of training sessions (lectures, seminars, practical classes, etc.) on the disciplines assigned to the department;

- ensuring continuous improvement of teaching technology, the quality of conducting various types of training sessions on the basis of intensification of the educational process, the use of active and interactive forms of training, computer information technologies;

- conducting control of knowledge of students on educational programs of bachelor's and master's degrees in the form of current, preliminary and intermediate certification, implementation of the analysis of results;

- organization and implementation of mutual visits of training sessions by teachers, pedagogical control of training sessions on the disciplines of the department, conducting open classes and their discussion;

- development and improvement of working educational programs (syllabuses), methodological instructions for preparing for practical (seminar) classes, methodological instructions for organizing independent work of students;

- submission of the department's proposals to the university's scientific activity plan for the calendar year; implementation of the university's scientific activity plan in terms of the department; submission of a report to the research department on the results of the department's scientific work for the calendar year;

- ensuring the participation of the department's faculty in scientific and practical conferences at the university and other higher education institutions and research institutions both in the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad;

- ensuring the participation of the department's faculty in the preparation of publications in journals recommended by the Quality Assurance Committee in the field of science and higher education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and publications indexed in the Scopus and Web of science databases.

- organizing research activities for students and master's students, including the functioning of a scientific club, the preparation of research and competition papers, and scientific publications, including those co-authored with the department's faculty; participation in competitive and scientific events at various levels;

- organizing professional development for the department's faculty;

- carrying out educational work with students, which contributes to their civic, professional, and moral development;

The department's teachers keep records of the types of work they carry out (educational, methodological, and scientific), and the results are reflected in the teachers' individual work plans and relevant monitoring.

Educational and methodological work of the department

The department conducts training of undergraduate and graduate students in social and humanitarian disciplines.

The Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines actively conducts educational and methodological work aimed at improving the quality of the educational process and developing professional competencies of students. The department's teachers regularly update curricula, teaching aids and educational materials, taking into account modern requirements and trends in the field of social and humanitarian sciences.

A lot of attention is paid to the implementation of innovative teaching methods, the development of independent work skills and critical thinking among students. As part of the educational and methodological work, seminars, trainings and master classes are organized, which help teachers to improve their qualifications and master new pedagogical technologies.

The department also actively interacts with other educational institutions and scientific organizations, which contributes to the exchange of experience and the development of interdisciplinary approaches in teaching.

Subjects taught

The department trains undergraduate and graduate students in social and humanitarian disciplines.

Undergraduate educational programs:

- History of Kazakhstan;

- Philosophy;

-Module of socio-political knowledge: (sociology, political science, cultural studies, psychology);

- Module of economic, legal and environmental knowledge (Section Fundamentals of law and anti-corruption culture);

Master's degree programs:

- History and philosophy of science;

- Psychology of management;

- Higher school pedagogy.

Scientific activities of the Department

The teaching staff of the department annually takes an active part in scientific, scientific-methodological, scientific-practical conferences, seminars and other scientific-methodological events held in the Republic of Kazakhstan and beyond, where they successfully exchange knowledge and experience, learn new technologies, because getting acquainted with promising scientific research is a process necessary for every modern teacher.

The Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines is actively engaged in scientific work, which covers a wide range of research in the field of social and humanitarian sciences. The department's teachers participate in scientific projects, publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, and give presentations at various conferences.

One of the department's priority areas of research is the study of current issues in society, culture, and education, as well as interdisciplinary issues related to the humanities. The department's faculty actively engages students in research activities, involving them in research projects, academic competitions, and student conferences.

The department also hosts scientific seminars and discussion clubs, where current trends and challenges in the humanities are discussed. This contributes to the development of the scientific potential of both faculty members and students, fostering a research-oriented culture and stimulating the further advancement of scientific thought.

One of the activities of the department is the organization of research work by students, who, under the guidance of the department's professors, annually participate in the Republican Competition of Student Research Papers, International and Republican Scientific and Practical Conferences. 

Under the guidance of the department's professors, first- and second-year students have repeatedly won prizes in university competitions and research contests for students.

Traditionally, the department holds subject competitions and ensures that students participate in city and republican competitions for research papers.

The main objectives of scientific activities for 2025-2029

1. Development of scientific research of the department within the framework of priority areas of science related to the specifics of the assigned disciplines.

2. Development of conceptual foundations for the participation of education in the formation of the civic position of university students and the young generation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in countering the ideology of terrorism, extremism, and corruption.

3. Involvement of students in scientific activities in the form of participation in scientific student clubs of the department, university, and the work of permanent scientific and practical seminars.

4. Activating the activities of the department's faculty members to participate in research projects and receive funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as publishing scientific articles in publications recommended by the Quality Assurance Committee for Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and publications indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.

The department's material and technical base

The department has educational (specialized) classrooms (5 classrooms in total), which are equipped with modern technical teaching aids, including specialized classrooms for studying the history of Kazakhstan, philosophy, and socio-political disciplines.
